Laxmi Agarwal , (born 1 June 1990) is an Indian campaigner with Stop Sale Acid and a TV host . She is an acid attack survivor and speaks for the rights of acid attack victims . She was attacked in 2005 at age 15 , by a 32-year-old man Gudda and his alias Nadeem Syed whose advances she had rejected . Her story , among others , was told in a series on acid attack victims by Hindustan Times . She has also advocated against acid attacks through gathering 27,000 signatures for a petition to curb acid sales , and taking that cause to the Indian Supreme Court . Her petition led the Supreme Court to order the central and state governments to regulate the sale of acid , and the Parliament to make prosecutions of acid attacks easier to pursue .
She is the Founder of Stop Sale Acid , a campaign against acid violence and sale of acid . Laxmi started this campaign with #StopSaleAcid which garnered nation wide support . She recently received International Women Empowerment Award 2019 from IWES , Ministry of Women and Child Development , Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation and Unicef for her campaign Stop Sale Acid . She is also the former director of Chhanv Foundation , a NGO dedicated to help the survivors of acid attacks in India . Laxmi received a 2014 International Women of Courage award by US First Lady Michelle Obama . She was also chosen as the NDTV Indian of the Year . A movie is being made starring actress Deepika Padukone , which is inspired by her journey as an acid attack surivivor .
Chhapaak is an upcoming movie , based on the real life of the acid attakck survivor Laxmi Agarwal . This true inspiring story , will be made a bit more colourful by the bollywood actress Deepika Padukone with her elegant presence as the protogonist of the movie . Indian audience is well known to welcome true story based films with full enthusiasm , and is hence the best site to release a movie of this kind . In addition to revealing the first look, Deepika announced that filming on the project will commence ON 24TH . Chhapaak will be released on January 10 , 2020 .
Film is going to be directed by Meghna Gulzar , who contributed in making Bollywood , a film industry with some of the best classic films , by her movies Raazi , Talwar , Just Married and so on . Production will be managed by Leena Yadav in . collaboration with Fox Star Studios . Recently , Deepika Paukone appeared in the First look of the movie ( the make-up artists deserve a loud round applause) , Deepika appears to be in full prosthetic makeup in the image, which shows her in an artistic pose that highlights the scars and burns on her character’s face . Audience are stunned and very excited about the movie (I m waiting desperately , eager to know about Laxmi Agarwal...) .
Meghna had previously teased that fans can expect to see a completely new Deepika in the film. “You won’t be seeing Deepika, you know. You will be seeing a disfigured Deepika,” the filmmaker said at a Chennai event. “There is an uncanny similarity between the survivor and Deepika.”
Laxmi has expressed her approval of Deepika being cast in the role. Speaking with Hindustan Times, she had said, “I am so happy that Deepika is playing the role. I have no right to judge her. How can I judge someone for something which I can’t do. She has played wonderful characters on screen and I believe she will give her best.” . According to the information source's , we'll find Vikranth Massey also as some major charater of the film . The actress had recently shared a behind-the-scenes image from a table read session from the film , which also showed her co-actor , Vikrant Massey , in a bearded look . “All things are ready , if our mind be so ,” Deepika quoted William Shakespeare in the caption . The chappaak movie is gonna stress upon the life of an acid attack survivor in a world where looks alone are considered the main criteria to to behave well to a person (ugly faces are seen as the indicator of a dark heart , how ridiculous!) . And how she becomes a world famous campaigner . Calling Chhapaak an ‘important film’, the actor had said at the recent Zee Cine Awards , “It’s so ironic that on the day of Holi , I am off to Delhi for the shooting of Chapaak . We will start shooting it on Monday . It’s a very important film and I feel that the story which we are showcasing in our film needs to be told .”
